2.9 Portlandia
by the time we got to Portland we yearned to be back in national parks-- cities started to freak us out-- just in vast number of people and the fact that for the most part-- city activities are all centered around eating and drinking and we just wanted to be DOING!
so why bother with Portland?
well! one of my friends who I've known for probably around 20 years now just decided to up and go one day and leave jersey and all his drama behind. he made Portland his home.
so we spent a fair amount of time seeing Portland through Rory's eyes. which was a lot of fun, and yes we went to voodoo doughnuts... cause you have to right???
(I'm not really a doughnut person) we went out a lot and as a result slept pretty late. Portland has a spectacular rose garden which I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the city.
I must have sniffed at least 200 varieties of roses. in the past I had always thought they were such a cliche flower but After this visit I really have a new appreciation for them. (except for those that were stanky-- not a fan of the rotting meat type of rose)
we learned all about how Portland is responsible for the term "getting shanghaied". and that's just something you'll have to explore for yourself.
seems like most people there are transplants from other places, but that's usually the case with any city.. or is it just that those are the people who go out?
the world may never know.
and neither do I.
I'd give Portland another go for sure.
see you soon Ror!
